The former Chelsea coach has been linked with the club ever since current boss, Roberto Mancini, walked out on the club only to make a dramatic U-turn on his decision. Mancini still hasn't confirmed his position with the Nerazzurri and he may leave in the summer. Meanwhile the Special One is currently free and waiting to pounce and, according to reports, he has claimed that he will sign for Inter on Monday. Gazzetta claim Mourinho sent Chelsea midifielder Michael Essien a text message after the Moscow Champions League finaltelling him the news of his new adventure with the Nerazzurri. The text reads: "Michael, you have all been great players regardless of the loss to Manchester United. On Monday I will sign for Inter and I hope that one day you too will come to Inter." It seems as if Mourinho will take half of the Chelsea squad with him if he signs, as Inter are also interested in Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. Mancini has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester City and if he does leave San Siro then the door would be wide open for Mourinho to walk in. Inter are desperate to win the Champions League and Moratti would prefer someone who has experience of victory in the competition in the past to take the reins at San Siro.

Inter confirmed yesterday that they had signed the former Chelsea manager on a three-year deal, thought to be worth around £7 million a year after tax.

Italian job: Jose Mourinho will hope to raid Chelsea for his new club
Although Mourinho is bringing Rui Farias, Silvino and Andrei Villas Boas from Portugal, his deputy will be Giuseppe Baresi, a former Inter player and the head of the youth team. The cost of firing Roberto Mancini and hiring Mourinho is thought to be around £80 million. Massimo Moratti, the owner of the club, is also preparing to spend the same again on refreshing a squad who are beginning to look tired and old. The Italian media have speculated that some of Inter's veterans, such as Patrick Vieira and Luis Figo, are likely to depart.Inter had a quiet end to the season, despite winning the Italian league for the third year running. Their lavish spending has surprised even Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's multi-billionaire prime minister and owner of AC Milan. "How has Moratti got all this money? I am going to ask for a raise when I leave my job," he joked.Moratti has already underlined his intent by giving a new £9.5 million-a-year contract to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, making Inter's lead striker the highest-paid player in Serie A. A swap deal between Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto'o, of Barcelona, was recently mooted, but the Swede is now tied to Inter until 2013.

Inter will now concentrate on signing Frank Lampard from Chelsea. Lampard is in contract negotiations and has been offered £130,000 a week by Chelsea, and Inter are thought to be willing to match the deal. Lampard's current deal expires in June 2009.They are also thought to be willing to spend £44 million on Eto'o and Deco from Barcelona and £32 million to buy Ricardo Quaresma from Porto. Mourinho has also been heavily linked with Chelsea's Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Ricardo Carvalho.Mourinho said: "I prefer open and available people. I am a simple person and a simple coach. At the end of the day it is easy to work with me."Sources at Inter said Moratti was relying on Mourinho's charisma to unify a divided dressing room, and noted that Mourinho had inspired immense loyalty among the players at Chelsea.Baresi said yesterday he was surprised to be appointed as Mourinho's right-hand man. "I did well with the youth team, and then a few days ago they said something which a month ago I would never have believed. It is a great opportunity and I will work hard at it," he said.Ernesto Paolillo, the general manager of Inter who had lunch with Moratti and Mourinho in Paris over the weekend, was keen to talk up the new coach."He is absolutely not a cold person," Paolillo said. "The only thing I want to say is that he is a great professional. You will discover the rest in time."Hernan Crespo, who had an unsuccessful spell under Mourinho at Chelsea, said he was not anxious over the appointment. "While I was at Chelsea, I used to think that Inter were the right team for him," the Argentine striker said."The fact that I know him does not mean I will be preferred. In a great team, there are lots of champions, and at Chelsea he made sure there was space for everyone."After a press conference today in Milan, Mourinho is scheduled to fly to Japan to take part in a testimonial for Hidetoshi Nakata. He is expected to start work next week.Five top targets for the 'Special One'Frank Lampard

Lampard or Deco for Inter, not both

Rome - Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has confirmed that his club will buy either Frank Lampard or Deco in their summer spending spree, but not both.

Lampard was one of new Inter coach Jose Mourinho's lieutenants at Chelsea, whilst Deco has long been linked with a transfer to Inter.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Moratti, who controls the San Siro club's purse strings, said they will only buy one midfielder this summer, effectively ruling them out of a move for Roma and Italy's Alberto Aquilani.

Moratti said: "Mourinho likes Lampard a lot, everybody considers him a great midfielder. Deco has the right characteristics, but we can't buy everybody. Aquilani I like, but we will buy only one midfielder (this summer)."

He also said that Brazil striker Adriano is likely to return to the club after his six-month loan at Sao Paolo.

Mourinho is currently in South America where he watched Adriano in Brazil's World Cup qualifying matches.

If he does return he will link up with 17 year-old phenomenen Mario Balotelli who recently signed an extension to his Inter contract, something which delighted Inter's president.

"I think Adriano will (come back). It is clear that Mourinho is in Brazil to find out how he is and how he feels he will fit into the squad.

"Balotelli should be honoured to be at Inter. He has come through our youth ranks and now is adapting himself well (to life in the first team)."

Luis Figo is another player close to signing on for anther year at San Siro.

The 35 year-old former Portugal captain's prefered option is to remain at Inter, despite receiving offers from clubs in Dubai and the United States.

Moratti said; "They (Figo and Mourinho) will meet next week. I don't want to put Figo under pressure because it is his choice. Mourinho has already talked to the player and has asked for confirmation." - Sapa-AFP
